Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Timeline Generator & Visualizer mobile application (“the app”) for Android and iOS. By downloading, installing, or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. What the app does

Timeline Generator & Visualizer reads a Google Maps Timeline export you provide, detects trips within it, and renders an animated video and/or still image of the selected route entirely on your device. The app does not modify, upload, or transmit the source Timeline file. See our Privacy Policy for full detail on data handling.

2. License to use the app

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own personal or internal purposes. This license does not permit you to:

• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, except where applicable law expressly permits it
• Redistribute, sublicense, rent, lease, or resell the app or access to it
• Remove or obscure any copyright, trademark, or attribution notices, including the required OpenStreetMap and CARTO map attribution embedded in rendered videos
• Use the app in any way that violates applicable law or infringes another person's rights

3. Your Timeline data and your videos

You retain full ownership of the Timeline export you import and of every video or image the app renders from it. We claim no ownership or license over your Timeline data or your output files — the app simply transforms data you already own into a video you keep on your own device. You are solely responsible for the Timeline data you import and for how you use, store, or share the videos you create, including compliance with the terms of any platform (Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, etc.) you share them to.

4. Map data and required attribution

Map tiles used in the app are provided by CARTO and built on OpenStreetMap data, and are subject to the OpenStreetMap and CARTO terms of use. Attribution (“© OpenStreetMap © CARTO”) is embedded in every rendered frame and cannot be removed or disabled, as required by those providers' terms.

5. Intellectual property

The app itself — its code, design, visual identity, and branding — is owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of that ownership to you beyond the limited license in Section 2.

6. No warranty

The app is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't guarantee that the app will be error-free, that trip detection will always be accurate, that rendering will always succeed on every device, or that map tiles will always be available.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of the app. Because the app processes your Timeline data locally and never transmits it to us, we have no ability to recover or restore your source data if it is lost, corrupted, or deleted on your device — please keep your own backup of any Timeline export you wish to keep.

8. Third-party app stores

If you obtained the app through the Apple App Store or Google Play, your use is also subject to that store's usage terms. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and a store's terms regarding the license grant, the store's terms govern to the extent required.

9. Changes to the app or these Terms

We may update the app and these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes to these Terms, we'll update the “Last updated” date above. Continuing to use the app after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.

10. Termination

You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it — since the app stores no account and no server-side record of you, there is nothing further to close out. We may also suspend distribution of the app on a given platform at any time, for any reason, though we will always leave you free to keep using a version you've already installed.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which we operate, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where local consumer-protection law requires otherwise.
